Country’s meat production stands at 71.54 lakh metric tonnes

Staff Correspondent, from Parliament: Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda told the House that in 2016-17, country's meat demand was 71 lakh 35 thousand tonnes, but the production was 71 lakh 54 thousand tonnes.

The minister said this while responding to a query placed by treasury bench member M Israfil Alam of Naogoan-6 at the house on Wednesday.

At the same time, country's milk production was 92,83,000 tonnes against the demand of 1,48,65,000 tonnes, Chanda added.

Responding to another query, the minister said as the number of cows and buffaloes and its productivity are on the rise across the country and that's why the fisheries and livestock ministry is continuously holding meeting with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to stop tendency of bringing cattle from the neighbouring countries.
