Sports Desk: Bangladesh lose early wickets against Australia after winning the toss and electing to bat first against in the first Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on Sunday.

Bangladesh batsmen Shakib al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal rescued their side after Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins bagged three quick wickets.

After lunch, the Tigers were batting on 218 runs for the loss of six wickets in 67 overs.


Earlier, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim chose to bat in the first Test between Bangladesh and Australia for more than 11 years.Nasir Hossain was included for his first Test since 2015, when he turned out against South Africa, while Shafiul Islam was also brought in. Gone from Bangladesh's most recent Test XI were Mosaddek Hossain, who was suffering from an eye infection, and Subashis Roy, who was dropped.

Australia named their XI on the eve of the Test and there were no late surprises, with Usman Khawaja listed at No.3 after being overlooked for all four Tests in India earlier this year. Ashton Agar was chosen as the second frontline spinner and will play Test cricket for the first time since his debut series in 2013.


The match was set to begin in hot humid conditions, although forecasts suggested there could be storms around throughout the five days of the Test.
