Staff Correspondent: The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on Wednesday suspended the operation of all types of water transport across the country following inclement weather due to formation of cyclonic storm Titli over the Bay.
BIWTA Chairman M Mozammel Haque confirmed the matter to risingbd.com this afternoon.
He said the decision was taken as cyclonic storm Titli intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the West-Central Bay and adjoining area.
Due to cyclonic storm Titli, the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have already been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal No 4. For security reason, the operation of all types of water transport across the country has been suspended from 3:00pm, Mozammel Haque said.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice, he said.
