DNCC mayoral by-polls in 90 days of post vacancy

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) will hold the by-polls to the mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) within the next 90 days as the post fell vacant following the death of Annisul Huq.
Election Commission secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed made the disclosure while addressing reporters at the EC secretariat on Sunday.
He said, “The local government ministry will inform us publishing gazette notification declaring the mayoral post vacant. Then, the commission will begin the preparatory work for the by-polls in the vacant post.”
Helal Uddin also said that the Election Commission has also a legal obligation to complete the by-election within 90 days, according to the article 16 of the Local Government (City Corporation) Act 2009.
DNCC mayor Annisul passed away at a London hospital at 10:23pm on Thursday night.
On April 28, 2015, the DNCC election was held where Awami League candidate Annisul Huq won the election.
