DNCC urges 8 embassies to free footpaths

Staff Correspondent: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) urged ambassadors of eight embassies located in the capital’s diplomatic zone to shift their respective security establishments to own compound from footpaths in order to facilitate public movement.

The requests were made at a letter signed by DNCC chief executive officer on February 28, said DNCC public relations officer Md Manzur-e-Mowla.

The DNCC public relations officer said the requests were made to the ambassadors of United States, Italy, Germany, Canada, France, United Kingdom, Australia and Turkey through the letter.

On February 11, 2001, the High Court (HC) ordered the then DNCC mayor to evict the illegal establishments from the footpaths following a writ petition filed by Barrister Omar Sadat in order to facilitate public movement.

Citing the court direction, Gulshan Society president ATM Shamsul Huda wrote an application to DNCC mayor to evict the illegal establishments from the footpaths on December 15, 2016.

In reply to that letter, the DNCC made the requests to the ambassadors of eight embassies located in the capital’s diplomatic zone to shift their respective security establishments to own compound from footpaths in order to facilitate public movement.
