Dacoit killed in Tejgaon ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent: A suspected dacoit has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the capital’s Tejgaon area.

The deceased has been identified as Abdullah (35), son of Shamsul Islam at Tarael in Kishoreganj.

According to police, after receiving information that a gang of robbers was preparing to commit robbery in the BG Press Field area on Tuesday night, a team of police started an operation in the area.

When police arrived on the scene the gang opened fire. One of the gang members was injured when police returned fire. The others fled.

The wounded man was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead early Wednesday.

Police recovered a pistol and some local weapons from the spot.

Two policemen have also been injured in the gunfight, police said.
