Delay in trial: 3 prisoners get HC bail

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) granted bail to three prisoners who have been suffering in jails without trial for more than ten years as the cases filed against them were not disposed.

The HC bench comprising of Justice AKM Abdul Hakim and Justice Muzibur Rahman passed the order on Monday after hearing their statements and examining their case reports.

The three prisoners included Shaju Mia, Asadul alias Asa, and Dana Mia.

The bailed Shaju Mia had been in Narsingdi jail, Asadul Alias Asa in Satkhira jail and Dana Mia in Sylhet jail since 2006.

Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee Panel Lawyer Chanchal Kumar Biswas presented information on the three prisoners in the court.

The HC on February 14 issued a rule asking the authorities concerned as to why the three prisoners will not be given bail who have been suffering in jails without trial for more than ten years as the cases filed against them were not disposed.
