Dhaka dwellers to get water from Meghna river after 4 yrs

Staff Correspondent, from Parliament: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative (LGRD &C) Minister Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain said the people living in the capital will have to wait for four years more to get pure water from Meghna River.

The minister said this while responding to a written query placed by treasury bench member M Abdul Latif of Chittagong-11 in the House on Tuesday.

Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain said, “The present government has taken a project on "Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply Project (DESWSP) for supplying pure water to meet the demand of people who lives in Dhaka city.”

Under the project, he said daily 50 crore litres water would be supplied in the Dhaka city after withdrawal of water from Bisnondi point of Meghna River and water treatment at Gandrabopur treatment plant located at the eastside of the Sitalakhya River.

The work of the project would be completed by December 2021, the LGRD minister added.
