Disappearance of Coal: Case filed against 19 officers

Staff Correspondent, Rangpur: A case was filed against 19 officials of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL) including its erstwhile managing director in connection with the disappearance of 1.44 lakh tonnes of coal.

Barapukuria coal mine's manager (administration) Mohammad Anisur Rahman lodged the case with Parbatipur model police station at 12:00am on Tuesday.

Habibul Haq, officer-in-charge of Parbatipur model police station confirmed the matter.

The accused are - Nur-Uz Zaman Chowdhury, AKM Khaledul Islam, MD Habib Uddin Ahmed, Abul Kashem Pradhania, Mosharraf Hossain, Masudur Rahman Hawlader, Ashok Kumar Haldar, Arifur Rahman, Jahidul Islam, Ekramul Haque, Muhammad Khalilur Rahman, Morsheduzzaman, Habibur Rahman, Jahedur Rahman, Sottendranath Barman, Syed Imam Hasan, Zobayer Ali, Abdul Mannan Patwari and Gopal Chandra Saha. 

Investigation Officer also officer-in-charge of Parbatipur model police station (probe) Fakhrul Islam started investigation in this regard.

According to case statement, BCMCL managing director Habib Uddin Ahmed and others allegedly sold 116,000 tonnes of coal and embezzled Tk 2 billion.
