Staff Correspondent: Armed forces members will go to all the district towns in small groups on December 15 to recce the situation ahead of the national election.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said this at a special meeting held with the law enforcers at the Election Commission on Thursday.

The armed forces’ teams will go to the district towns to determine where they will stay and the transport services available in those areas, the CEC said.

KM Nurul Huda also instructed law enforcers ‘not to harass’ polling officers ahead of the upcoming national election.

“We did not instruct you to do this. Don’t do this. This is embarrassing. We did not want this,” the CEC said.

The help of every government agency is needed to hold a fair election as it is not possible to do that by the Election Commission alone, he said.

“The safety of the general people, polling agents, polling centres and all other kinds of safety depend on you. You’ve lots of responsibilities," the CEC told the law enforcers.

He hoped that the police would perform their duties with devotion and sincerity.

The inspector general of police, metropolitan commissioners, deputy inspector general, and superintendent of police were present at the meeting.
