Dr Yunus takes tax benefits illegally

Special Correspondent: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith alleged that Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus has taken tax benefits illegally from the institutions like the Grameen Bank he has opened.

The minister made the allegation after a meeting with a delegation of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) at his secretariat office on Thursday morning.

The Finance Minister said, “It is being examined whether Dr. Yunus has taken tax benefits illegally or not from the institutions he has opened. Necessary steps will be taken in this regard.”

“Grameen Bank took a lot of tax benefits through its associate organisations. These tax benefits should be thoroughly investigated,” he said.

BASIS leaders discussed export possibility at IT sector with the Finance Minister. They have sought assistance from the Finance Minister in exporting softwares.

They hoped that IT sector may be a foreign currency earning sector if they get assistance from the government.
