Draft broadcast policy to be placed in cabinet soon: Inu

Secretariat Correspondent: The draft of the National Broadcast Policy will be placed before the cabinet for approval soon after finalising it, said Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu.

The minister made the comment while speaking at a meeting with private television owners' organisation Association of TV Channel Owners (ATCO) at his ministry office on Tuesday afternoon.

Owners of various television channels led by ATCO President Salman F Rahman, representatives of different mass media and high officials of the ministry were present at the meeting

The government has been speaking of airing programmes of Bangladeshi TV channels in India for many days but it is not being implemented, Rahman said while placing a set of demands.

He demanded imposing control on the airing of foreign TV serials dubbed into Bangla in our local channels.

Most of time, the information ministry is seen to take various crucial decisions without consulting with the owners of television channels. It would be better if their opinions were taken before picking up a decision, he added.

In reply, Inu said, "We have been working for long time for preparing a National Broadcast Policy for print and electronic media. The draft of the policy will be finalised by next October. Then, it will be placed before the cabinet for approval where details will be included."
