Draft of Road Transport Act gets Cabinet nod

Senior Reporter:  The Cabinet has approved draft of Road Transport Act (RTA), keeping a provision of five years’ jail and Tk 5 lakh fine as highest punishment.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the Cabinet meeting held at the secretariat on Monday.

The new law will be placed at the parliament session for finalization.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters after today’s regular cabinet meeting.

For some days now, government officials have been saying that this new law is the answer to what the students have been demanding – safer roads for everyone.
