'Draft of judges’ conduct rules sent to SC'

Staff Correspondent: Law Minister Anisul Huq said that the ministry has handed over a draft of the rules determining discipline and conduct of lower court judges to the Supreme Court (SC) for the latter’s consideration.

The minister said this while addressing a programme at the Judicial Administration Planning Institute in the capital on Tuesday.

The SC will forward the draft to the President Abdul Hamid upon its scrutiny, he said.

He also said that judges will be appointed to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court within shortest possible time.

On December 2 in 1999, the Supreme Court in the Masdar Hossain case issued a 12-point directive, including formulating separate disciplinary rules for the lower court judges.
