‘Drug trader’ Farid killed in N’ganj ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj:  A suspected drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Shiddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Farid Mia alias Fenci Farid, a top listed drug trader of the area and son of Balai Mia of Tarabo in Rupganj upazila.

Alep Uddin, senior assistant director of Rab-11, said acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-11 conducted a raid in Shimrail area. Sensing presence of law enforcers, the drug peddlers opened fire targeting the lawmen forcing them retaliate with the same triggering a gunfight.

Farid sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight. Later, he was taken to Narayanganj General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Two Rab members were injured in the incident, he added.

One pistol, bullets and some Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.

Farid Mia was wanted in 18 cases filed with different police stations, said the Rab official.
