‘Robber’ killed in Bhaluka ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Mymensingh: A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with detectives at Nayanpur village of Bhaluka upazila on Wednesday midnight.


The deceased was identified as Mobarak Hossain, son of Miar Uddin of the village.

According to police, he was wanted in 10 criminal cases including stealing and robbery.

Shah Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of district police, said being tipped-off, a group of robbers were taking preparations to commit robbery, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Mobarak. Later, as per statement of Mobarak, police conducted another drive for arms haul.  

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them forcing them to fire back in self-defense, he added.

At one stage, police detained Mobarak with bullet injury and took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Police also recovered a pistol, one pipe gun and four bullets from the spot.
