Drug trader killed in Tangail shootout

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: A suspected drug peddler was killed in a shootout with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Deulabari area of Ghatail of the district early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam Azad, 42, son of late Abdur Rahman.

Confirming the matter, Tangail RAB-12, CPC-3 Company Commander Rabiul Islam said that acting on a tip-off, a RAB team went to the area to arrest the drug traders around 12:30am. Meanwhile, sensing the presence of RAB, the drug traders opened fire which triggered the shootout, leaving Abul Kalam Azad injured.

Later, he was sent to local hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.

A foreign made pistol, three rounds of bullets, a magazine, 100 bottle of phensedyl, 1500 pieces of Yaba pills were seized from the spot.

Abul Kalam Azad was wanted in six cases including drug smuggling.
