All activities of Gazipur city polls halted: EC

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) has halted all activities for holding election to Gazipur City Corporation after the High Court issued a stay order on the election today.

Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar came up the announcement while talking to newsmen at his office at the Election Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon on Sunday afternoon.

“We have already come to know through different media reports that the High Court today stayed for three months the process for holding election to Gazipur City Corporation. Therefore, we on behalf of the Commission have asked the concerned returning officer to suspend all activities for holding the election,” Mahbub Talukdar said.

We have taken this decision to pay respect to the court direction, he added.

Election to Gazipur City Corporation was scheduled to be held on May 15.
