EC must ensure participatory election: Speaker

Staff Correspondent: The Speaker of the Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury has
said that the Election Commission must ensure participatory elections.

She said this while speaking at the inaugural function of a two-day-long ninth conference of Forum of Election Management Bodies of South Asia at a city hotel on Wednesday.

Shirin Sharmin said that Election Commission is responsible for organizing elections according to the RPO and the Constitution. Free, neutral and participatory elections are basic of democracy.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said according to the Constitution, the Election Commission is committed to conducting free and fair elections.

A total of 21 representatives from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives are participating in this two-day conference.
