EC wants to hold parliamentary election within Dec

Staff Correspondent: Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed has said that it has planned to hold the 11th parliamentary election within December.

He said this to reporters at the Election Commission Building at Agargaon in the city on Thursday noon.

Helal Uddin Ahmed said, “It is our target - we want to hold the national election within December. The decision will be taken after a meeting with the President”.

About the amendment to the RPO, he said, “We sent it to the ministry. The latest news is that the law ministry has sent it to the cabinet division. We hope that this will be passed in this parliament session”.

“If it is not passed in the Parliament, it can be done through ordinance. But, we hope that it will be passed in the current Parliament session”, he said.

Helal Uddin Ahmed said, “We will hold a meeting with President on November 1. The meeting will be held under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner. After that the Commission will sit and take a decision”.

The election schedule will be announced through a speech to the nation, he said.
