EVM, CC cameras to be set up in city polls

Staff Correspondent: Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said the Election Commission has decided to use Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in some centres of Gazipur and Khulna city corporation polls scheduled to be held on May 15.
Alongside, Close Circuit cameras will also be set up in several centres to monitor polling activities from EC building, he added.
He also said the decision has not yet been taken how many centres will get EVM in the polls of the two city election.
EC Secretary on Saturday told this to the reporters while visiting the office of returning officer for Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls set up at Bangataj Auditorium of the town.
Returning officer for GCC polls Rokib Uddin Mondal, assistant returning officer and Gazipur polling officer Tarifuzzaman among other officials were present there.
Helal Uddin said, “EC will take all out measures to hold the election in a free and fair manner.”
“BGB along with other law enforcement agencies will be deployed during the polls. But there is yet no plan to deploy Army. Actually, Army is not generally deployed in local government polls,” he added.
