Voting in 6 seats to be counted by EVMs thoroughly

Staff Correspondent: The Election commission (EC) has taken final decision to count entire votes in six constituencies through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Election Commission (EC) secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed told this to the reporters on Saturday evening, after a meeting of EC over the use of EVMs at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon.

He said, “EVMs will be used in six constituencies out of 300. But seats where EVMs to be used will be known on November 28.”

The commission will finalise the constituencies through a random selection process. However, all the six constituencies must be in cities and towns, the EC secretary said.

In reply to a query, he said, “Around 900 EVMs will be used in the six seats.”

Four election commissioners and the EC secretary were present in the meeting.

According to the schedule announced by the EC, the voting of the 11th parliamentary election will be held on December 30.

The last date of submitting nomination papers is November 28. Nomination papers will be scrutinised on December 2 while the last date of withdrawing candidature is December 9. Symbols will be distributed among the candidates on December 10.
