‘Each village to get civic amenities’

Parliament Correspondent: Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina said, “Facilities of modern cities will be given to each village.”

She said this while replying to a query from opposition lawmaker Md Mujibul Haque during the PM’s question- answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad here on Wednesday.

The premier said effective measures have been taken under “My Village, My Town” project aimed at expanding civic amenities to the villages.

“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave commitment of taking effective measures in phases for reducing gap between the villages and cities (to reach civic amenities to the villages),” Hasina said.

Bangabandhu committed to raise agricultural movement, electrify rural areas, ensure standard education, flourish cottage and other industries, develop communications system and public healthcare services to reduce gap between the towns and villages, she also said.

“We have taken ‘My Village, My Town,’ project to materialize the commitment of Bangabandhu,” she continued.

Initiatives for expansion of giving facilities of modern cities to villages, the government will construct improved roads and communications, arrange pure drinking water and modern healthcare services and proper treatment, ensure standard education, developed proper sanitation and waste management, increase supply of power and mineral, ensure computer with speeding internet facilities, and ensure standard consumer products, she also said.

Bangladesh had been recognized as one of the poorest countries in the world from 1975 (after assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) to 1996.—Awami League formed government on January 12 in 1996 after 21 years and with it the people got their government and tasted freedom as well, she said.

To this end, she said, this five-year was the golden era for the people as the country had achieved significant progress to socioeconomic sector,” she also said.
