Staff Correspondent: Teachers under the banner of Independent Ebtedayee Madrasa Teachers Association have been holding a sit-in programme for an indefinite time in front of the National Press Club in the capital since Monday morning, demanding nationalization of their educational institutions.
Hundreds of teachers from across the country are seen to take part in the sit-in programme.
Kazi Ruhul Amin Chowdhury, president of the Association, said, “Salary for the teachers of non-government primary schools and Independent Ebtedayee madrasa was fixed at Tk 500 in the same circular in 1994. The present government nationalised 26,193 primary schools in 2013. But madrasas don't get any funds, even though we teach our students the same way as teachers of nationalised primary schools do. So, thousands of teachers are leading a very miserable life.”
“We will continue the strike unless our demands are met,” said Mokhlesur Rahman, secretary general of the Association.
