Eid holidaymakers suffer

Staff Correspondent: Thousands of home‐bound people have started getting out of the capital ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

But, people got stuck on different highways and roads on Thursday due to serious traffic chaos as a large number of vehicles left the capital for many destinations of the country.

Bus counters staff said that the passenger pressure will mount from this noon as the job holders will start to move after their Thursday office.

Some of the major highways have already been witnessing tailbacks due to pothole-ridden roads, ongoing works to upgrade roads and road accidents.

The number of people leaving Dhaka and its outskirts is likely to increase significantly when the garment factories close.

A Khulna-bound passenger named Rafiqul Islam said, "I left home early fearing traffic jam but could not the problem."

Passengers heading to the southern districts in buses said they were in dread of the Paturia and Daulatdia ferry terminals.
