Eid journey: Passengers complain of high fares

Staff Correspondent: Bus operators are charging extra from passengers on their way to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha in different districts, alleged passengers.

The operators are extracting much higher than the government-fixed fares ahead of the religious festival against the backdrop of huge demand, they added.

However, the service providers in bus counters said that they are taking fixed amount of money from the passengers according to the government direction.

Mohammad Imran, a Barisal-bound passenger said, "Usually I select bus route to travel Barisal. The fare in this route is Tk700 normally. But, I had to pay more this time."

Following the issue, Mohammad Masud, counter manager of Sakura Paribahan said, "We always take less from the government fixed amount. But, we maintain government fixed fare during Eid as the buses return empty. So, the complaint in this regard is not correct."
