Eid special launch service from Sunday

Staff Correspondent: Special launch service will begin on Sunday (August 19) on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslim community.

The authority took some special steps to make the smooth journey. The steamship service under government's subsidy already has started Eid special service from August 16.

Besides, the special service from private sector was also kept ready. The owners of private launches will start special service from tomorrow (August 19) in Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Jhalakathi, Gularhar and other river routes in southern part of the country.

Md Mamun, Assistant Inspector of Dhaka River Port said that there is no enough passenger pressure yet. The launches are leaving Dhaka ports as usual. However, the passenger rush may increase today.

Sufficient security measures have been taken to ensure smooth Eid journey. Coast guards, fire service, naval police, Marine Cadets, scouts and girls guide will be deployed in Sadarghat and other launch stations to ensure safety and security of the passengers. There will be strict surveillance to ensure that no launches can be run with extra passengers.

Following the issue, Alamgir Kabir, joint director (Traffic) of Dhaka river port said, "We have completed all types preparation. We hope there will be no problem in this Eid journey."
