Emergency medical services at DMCH suspended

Staff Correspondent: The authorities of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) have suspended emergency medical services as aggrieved relatives of a patient, who died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on Sunday, attacked physicians and nurses.

DMCH authorities said a certain Nawshad Ahmed (50) came from Old Dhaka with heart complaints and was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night.

He died at the coronary care unit at noon on Sunday.

On hearing of his death, relatives of the deceased attacked on-duty doctors and nurses at the CCU and vandalised medical equipment, insiders said.

A number of physicians then came to scene and closed the entry points of the hospital.

The services at the emergency department remained suspended since the attack.

After the incident, the physicians were holding a meeting with Brig Gen (retd) Md Mizanur Rahman, Director of DMCH, in the afternoon.
