Entire world stands beside Bangladesh to fight Rohingya crisis

Staff Correspondent: The international community has pledged to stand beside Bangladesh to fight the Rohingya crisis and termed the loss of innumerable human lives in the Rakhine state of Myanmar as 'genocide'.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali told reporters after a meeting with ambassadors and representatives of different countries and organisations on Sunday.

The meeting was about the latest condition of the Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh from the violence-torn region of Myanmar.

Later, the foreign minister briefed diplomats of Western and Muslim countries separately about the crisis this afternoon.

The foreign diplomats thanked the government of Bangladesh for the briefing. They highly praised the government of Bangladesh for hosting the Rohingyas for all these years and also giving shelter to the Myanmar nationals who are fleeing violence in the Rakhine State.

Besides, the Foreign Minister referred to the recently published report of the Kofi Annan Commission and urged the international community to pursue the Myanmar government for immediate and unconditional implementation of the recommendations of this report in its entirety for permanent solution to this crisis.

Terming the Rohingya influx as a national problem, the foreign minister said all have to come up and participate in this matter considering the national interest.

To find out an appropriate solution to this crisis, the foreign minister held the meeting with Ambassadors, High Commissioners, CDAs from diplomatic Missions of Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Norway, the Netherlands, the USA, the UK, and EU and representatives from UN Resident Coordinator, UNHCR, WFP, Unicef, IOM, ICRC and Ambassadors, High Commissioners and CDAs from diplomatic Missions of Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE at Padma state guest house.

Nearly 300,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh after the Myanmar military launched a counter-offensive following attacks by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) insurgents on 30 police posts and an army base on August 25.
