Every district to have govt, says Muhith

Special Correspondent: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has said district government will be formed to ensure balanced development across the country in next five years. The ruling party Awami League (AL) will mention it in the manifesto of the next general election.

The Minister came up with the statement while speaking at a programme at the National Museum in the capital on Sunday.

Muhith said, “At present the country's GDP growth is more than 7 percent. But to make it 10 percent, government has to be formed in every district. AL will make this pledge in its manifesto of the next general election.

“The manifesto is being prepared in which I shall have some roles. I will mention it in the manifesto deliberately,” he added.

The Minister said, “AL government has completed a plenty of development works in the country. The country’s people are also getting benefits from them. Hope, they will cast their votes for Bangabandhu daughter Sheikh Hasina in the next election to form the government. AL will form government every district by 2023 if the party can form the government in the next parliamentary election.”

“Forming government in every district does not mean that there will be no central government. There must be the central government. The central government will serve as the head for all development activities of the country. If the district government is formed, it will be able to make development plans according to the needs of the region which will increase standard of the public services. It will be done so that all people get all types services in their respective districts.”

“There will be no more poverty in the country by 2024. However, different types of challenged people which will be 10 percent of the total population, the government will take care of them,” he added.
