‘Every division to have medical university’

Parliament Correspondent: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jahid Malek said the government has taken initiatives to set up a medical university in every division of the country.

He said the administrative activities of two more medical universities, except Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in the capital, have been started in Chattogram and Rajshahi. Besides, the act of setting up a medical university in Sylhet is at the final stage for the approval.

The Minister said this in the parliament session while reply to a question raised by Narayanganj-1 lawmaker Golam Dastagir Gazi on Thursday.

In reply to another question made by lawmaker Nurul Islam Omar, Jahid Malek said a total of 12,837 community health care provider (CHCP) are on duties in every community clinic across the country. Besides, recruitment for 1,056 posts is under processing which will be completed soon.

The Minister said activities of a policy for taking treatment abroad for Bangladesh people is also under processing. However, it is not possible to mention how many people took treatment and how much money spent abroad till now. It will be easy to say once the policy is formulated.
