Staff Correspondent: Former Rangpur City Mayor Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has passed away at the age of 66 (inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raziun).
The former mayor breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka around 3:30pm on Sunday following a cerebral haemorrhage.
Himon Ahmed, son of the mayor, confirmed the matter to media.
Born in 1952, Jhantu suffered a stroke on February 1 and was admitted to a hospital in Rangpur. He was shifted to a Dhaka hospital by an air ambulance on the following day.
Jhantu, who was also an advisor of Rangpur AL, was elected as the first mayor of Rangpur City Corporation held on December 20, 2012.
