Executive magistrates can run mobile court till Oct 10

Staff Correspondent: Executive magistrate-run mobile courts got another time extension, until October 10.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday extended the stay of the High Court verdict that declared illegal running mobile courts by executive magistrates.

A six-member bench of Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order.

As a result, from now there is no bar to continue mobile courts by executive magistrates, the lawyers revealed today.

Barrister Hasan MS Azim moved for the petitioner while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state.

Earlier on August 1, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court extended for two more weeks the stay of the High Court.

On May 11, the High Court declared illegal of the operation of mobile court by the executive magistrate and later on May 14 after hearing on a government appeal the Chamber Judge stayed until May 18.
