Expats’ voting rights: Dual citizenship main barrier

Staff Correspondent:  Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said that dual citizenship is the main barrier to becoming voters of Bangladeshi expatriates living in different parts of the world.

The CEC said this at a seminar on expatriates’ voting rights held at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital on Thursday.

He said, “There exists a system under which expatriates can cast their votes through proxy vote and postal vote. We will take an initiative for widely campaign on the issue before the eleventh parliament election”.

Director General of the NID (national identity) registration wing Brig. Gen. Saidul Islam presented a paper at the seminar.
