Budget 17-18: Products that will see price hike

Economic Correspondent: Finance Minister AMA Muhith has proposed some changes to duties on different essential commodities which may result in increase in their prices.

The minister came up with the proposal while he was addressing his budget speech of the coming fiscal year 2017-18 in Parliament on Thursday.

While placing the proposed Tk 4,00,266-crore national budget for 2017-18 fiscal year, Muhith said they prepared customs-related proposals considering different aspects, including current socio-economic scenario, protection of domestic industries, increased industrial investment and revenue collection.

The finance minister mentioned names of some products whose prices will go up. The products are-- Bidi, cigarette, foreign mobile phone, UPS/IPS, evaporative air coolers, textbooks for primary and secondary education, wheat and maize starch, talcum powder, ECG and ultrasonogram recording paper, children's picture, drawing or colouring books, ceiling fan and its parts, imported colour television, SIM cards, solar panel, different spices for daily use, powdered milk, butter, chocolate, child food, potato chips, sauce, ice creams, salt, fuel oil, shaving creams, soaps, detergents, different types of bags, toilet materials, materials used to remove bad odour from body, etc.
