Faizur attacks on Zafar Iqbal from anger

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: Faizur Rahman, the lone attacker of Prof Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, had anger with the renowned writer since the publication of his book "Bhuter Bachcha Suleiman".
He also believed that the writer is an enemy of Islam. And he carried out the attack on the eminent writer from the grievance.
Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haydar Azad of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-9 came up with the statement at a press briefing held at its office on Sunday afternoon.
He said, "RAB got different kind of information from Faizur. A team of RAB-9 are working on the information. Three people have already been interrogated in this connection."
"Nobody alone can carry out such attack. Someone might have accompanied him. But in interrogation, Faizur confessed that he alone made the attack," he added.
"He (Faizur) left his studies after he had completed Dhakhil (equivalent to SSC). He used to work at different places," the RAB official said.
He said, "Faizur will be handed over to Jalalabad Station of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) as police will conduct the main investigation over the attack. But, RAB will run a shadow investigation over the incident."
Family members of Faizur are being traced, he added.
Ali Haydar said, "A team of RAB are scrutinizing different evidences including some Islami books seized from Faizur's house of Sheikhparha at Kumargaon, adjacent to the university."
Faizur's father is known as Atikur Rahman who teaches at a Madrasa of Tukerbazar under Sylhet sadar upazila. The family hailed from Kaliapon village under Dirai Police Station of Sunamganj.
Meanwhile, authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) filed a complaint with Jalalabad Police in this connection on Saturday night.
The complaint was registered as case on Sunday afternoon, according to Shafiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jalalabad Police Station.
