False testimony against Khaleda: Plea seeks action

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia

Staff Correspondent: A lawyer for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has filed a petition seeking punitive action against six witnesses in Zia Orphanage Trust graft and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases for allegedly making fake documents and giving false testimony against Khaleda Zia.

Khaleda Zia's lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali filed the petition with a Dhaka Special Judges Court in Bakhshibazar on Wednesday.

The six witnesses are—Harun-or-Rashid (pw-31), Abdul Barek Bhuiyan (pw-21), Mostafa Kamal Mojumdar (pw-19), Towhidur Rahman Khan (pw-20), Syed Jaglul Pasha (pw-14) and Majed Ali (pw-9).

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case for embezzlement of over Tk 2.1 crore by forming a “fake” trust which existed only on paper in 2008.

In 2011, the anti-graft watchdog filed another case, accusing four persons, including Khaleda Zia, on charges of abusing power in setting up Zia Charitable Trust.
