Flood situation improves, water levels of 53 rivers fall

Staff Correspondent: Flood situation has continued to improve in northern regions including Kurigram, Jamalpur, Gaibandha, Bogra and Sirajganj districts. The situation is also improving in south and mid regions including Manikganj, Faridpur, Rajbari, Shariatpur districts.

A source at Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) has confirmed the news on Monday.

Sardar Udoy Raihan, sub-divisional engineer of the BWDB, said flood situation has started to improve in northern regions as water of Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers is receding on and on.

Despite a continued increase in water level, the water level of Ganga river is now lower than before. At present, the Ganga river is flowing from 41cm to 104cm below the danger level at different points.

Water levels at 35 river stations monitored by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) have been marked increase while 53 stations recorded fall.

Among the 90 monitored water level stations, 27 river stations were recorded flowing above danger level, a bulletin issued by the FFWC said on Monday.

The Karatoa at Chak Rahimpur, the Jamuna at Bahadurabad, Sariakandi, Kazipur, Sirajganj and Aricha, the Gur at Singra, the Atrai at Baghabari, the Dhaleswari at Elasin and Jagir, the Mohananda at Rohanpur and Chapainawabganj, the Little Jamuna at Naogaon, the Padma at Goalundo, Bhagyakul and Sureswar, the Gorai at Kamarkhali, the Surma at Kanaighat, the Kushiyara at Amalshid, Sheola, Sherpur-Sylhet, the old Surma at Derai, the Kangsha at Jariajanjail and the Titas at Brahmanbaria are flowing above danger level by 7cm, 40cm, 37cm, 72cm, 79cm, 49cm, 93cm, 96cm, 88cm, 75cm, 13cm, 96cm, 55cm, 57cm, 13cm, 66cm, 87cm, 42cm, 41cm, 3cm, 25cm, 18cm, 35cm, 9cm, 39cm, 69 and 45cm respectively.

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna, the Padma, Surma and Kushiyara are in falling trend while the Ganges is in slightly rising trend.
