Flood situation worsens in north

Desk Report: The overall flood situation has worsened in the country's northwest and northeast regions due to heavy rain for the past few days and onrush of water from the upstream.

Water of all rivers including Brahmaputra, Dharla and Teesta has increased. The water of the rivers are flowing above the danger level.
 

In Kurigram,  the flood situation in Kurigram district has worsened as water of all rivers including Brahmaputra, Dharla, Teesta and Dudhkumar has increased.

The water of Dharla River is flowing 132 centimetres above the danger level in Setu Point, Brahmaputra 68 centimetres above the red mark at Chilmari and Dudhkumar river 138 centimetres above the danger level in Pateshwari.

About three lakh people of 60 unions of nine upazilas have been marooned.

The Amon paddy of 50 thousand hectares of land has gone under water. Flooded people are taking shelter in different places including educational institutions.

Kurigram- Bhurungamari road has been separated and isolated with other parts as it has submerged due to flood water.

Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Abu Saleh Mohammad Ferdous Khan said that the Upazila Nirbahi Officers and Upazila and Union Parishad chairmen have been directed to face the flood situation in the district. For the flood victims, Tk 11 lakh and 250 tonnes of rice have been allocated.

In Lalmonirhat, the flood situation in the district has worsened seriously. The water of Dharla River is flowing 108 centimetres above the danger level and Teesta river 65 centimetres above the danger level.

The floodwaters also disrupted road and rail communications of Lalmonirhat with other parts of the country.

In Netrakona, the water of the Someshwari was flowing 150cm above the danger mark, leaving over 30 villages in Durgapur upazila inundated.

Roads have also gone under water and all educational institutions have been submerged while several fisheries washed away by the floodwaters.

In Nilphamari, a 37-metre portion of a flood control embankment along the Khorkhoria river collapsed in Kamarpukur union of Saidpur on Sunday due to the onrush of water, halting the flight operation of Saidpur Airport as its runway went under water.
Besides, the floodwater submerged 150 acres of paddy field in the union and around 250 families marooned in the water.

The road communication between Parbatipur and Saidpur was disrupted as the water inundated the roads connecting the two upazilas.
