Forester officials, villagers clash kills 1 in Cox's Bazar

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: A villager was killed and six forest officials were injured in a clash in Chander Ghona area under Meherghona range of Eidgao union in Cox's Bazar upazila on Friday noon.

The deceased was identified as Mostak Ahmed, 35, hailed from Chander Ghona area of Eidgao union.

Confirming the matter, Eidgao police outpost in-charge SI Minhaz Uddin said the incident took place in the area around 12:30pm.

SI Minhaz Uddin said that some local people tried to build illegal shelters in the hilly area under Chander Ghona of Meherghona Range. On information, forest officials rushed to the spot led by local range officer. Meanwhile, 15-20 people attacked the law enforcers with lethal weapon which triggered the clash. At one stage, forest officials opened fire in self-defense, leaving six people injured including five forest officials.

The injured are- forest official Abdul Mannan, 43, Abdul Matin, 40, Md Khokon,, 32, Mohammad Shahidullah, 31 and Rashid Khan, 31.

Meanwhile, locals snatched seven rounds of bullets from the forest officials, he added.
