Form enquiry commission on Longadu attack: HC

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) issued a ruling asking the authority concerned to explain why it should not be directed to form an enquiry commission to find the culprits behind arson attacks in Rangamati's Longadu.

The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order on Monday.

The court also asked the government to show causes why it should not be ordered to determine the damages in the attack.

Cabinet, home and law, Chittagong hill tracts affairs’ secretaries and the inspector general of police (IGP) have been asked to respond to the rule within eight weeks.

On June 1, miscreants killed Rangamati’s Jubo League leader Nurul Islam Nayan in a bid to snatch his motorbike and to sell it out. Later, the settlers, blaming the indigenous people for Nayan’s death, set fire to houses and shops of the Adivasi people on June 2.
