Garment workers block highway in Gazipur

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Agitating garment workers in Gazipur blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Friday demanding their salaries ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Police and locals said that the workers from Elegant Factory took to the streets around 10:00am and blocked the highway demanding half salary of this month.

Following the road blockade, a serious traffic jam was created. Later, on information, industrial police and police forces from local police station rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. A 10-kilometer long traffic jam was seen in the both sides of the highway causing immense sufferings to the home-bound people.

Habib Iskandar, In-charge (OC) of Industrial police station said, the workers are demanding half salary of this month before their Eid. Discussion is underway between workers and factory author in this regard.
