Garment workers demand minimum wage at Tk 16000

Economic Correspondent: Jatiya Garments Shramik Federation and Ekota Garment Shramik Federation have demanded the minimum wage of the country’s garment workers at Tk 16,000.

The two organisations came up with the demand during a protest rally in front of National Press Club in the capital on Friday. After the meeting, the organisation also brought out a procession from Press Club area which ended at Paltan intersection. 

Amirul Haque Amin, president of Jatiya Garments Shramik Federation said, "The salary scale of government employees and the living cost have been increased. Per capita income, national income, poverty limit and thinking the overall dignified life of workers, it has become necessary for the garment workers to set a minimum wage at Tk 16,000."

The production and quality of products are related to the workers' living slandered, health security and satisfaction, he said.

Ekota Garment Shramik Federation Secretary General Kamrul Islam, Workers leader Arifa Aktar, Safia Parvin, Rafiqul Islam and others attended the programme.
