Gazette on 2,665 primary teachers Sunday

Secretariat Correspondent: Gazette of the third phase of government primary school teacher nationalization will be published on Sunday, two years after gazettes of the previous two phases were released.

This time, nearly 3,000 teachers of 533 schools from different districts will be nationalised, according to the Primary and Mass Education Ministry sources.

A total of five posts- a headmaster and four assistant teachers- were created at every listed school under the nationalisation.  So, a total of 2,665 teachers will be brought under nationalisation, the sources added.

As per rules and regulations, 40 percent of teachers will be appointed on recommendations of Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) while 60 percent on seniority.

The gazette was finalised based on the draft gazette of the listed teachers published by the Primary and Mass Education Ministry on December 29 last year.

However, allegations were found that many new faces were added to the draft gazette who were not in the list.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry AFM Manjur Qadir said as many as 832 schools were listed for the third phase. Of the list, gazette on teachers of 533 schools will be published on Sunday. Gazette of the rest schools will be released later.

Gazetted teachers will get salary and allowances from September of 2014, he added.

But many teachers claimed they should be paid from January of the year.

It has been understood that in 2013, the government decided to nationalise 1,03,845 teachers of 26,193 schools across the country in three phases.

Of which, 24,640 schools-- 22,921 in the first while 1,719 in the second phase, were nationalised.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced to nationalise the schools at a teachers’ conference held at the capital’s parade ground on January 9, 2013.
