Genocide Day: Nation ready to observe one-minute blackout

Staff Correspondent: The nation is ready to observe a one-minute blackout program for the third successive year, marking the Genocide Day of Bangladesh.

The blackout program will be observed from 9:00pm on Monday night.

People are expected to switch off the lights in their houses for one minute in memory of the victims, who died on the night of March 25, 1971. However, establishments of emergency services will remain out of the purview of the program.

In 2017, the government officially declared March 25 as Genocide Day, marking the widespread killing by the Pakistani Army of unarmed Bangali citizens on the dark night of March 25, 1971.
