‘Give me chance to serve you voting for boat’

Staff Correspondent: Seeking an opportunity to serve the countrymen again, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the people to vote for "boat" in the upcoming local government and general elections to keep up the current trend of development and spirit of independence.

The premier made the call while addressing a mammoth public rally at Alia Madrasa Maidan in Rajshahi city on Thursday afternoon.

Rajshahi district and city unit of Awami League organised the rally at the city's Madrasa Maidan with city AL President AHM Khairuzzaman Liton in the chair while the party's presidium member and health minister Mohammad Nasim, joint general secretaries Mahbub-up-Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moin and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, among others, spoke.

Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, said, “Awami League brings gift for people where BNP-Jamaat combine creates a reign of terror in the country. BNP has played games with the fate of people. But people are now living in peace after we come to power.”

Terming her Awami League's logo "boat" as the symbol of Bangladesh's independence and development, she sought peoples’ support for it in the next local body and national elections.

The prime minister said all these elections would be held with party symbols and "I seek your votes also to let people live in peace and happiness".

"We want to build a hunger and poverty free, prosperous Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," she added.

Earlier at 3:50pm, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated 21 development projects and laid the foundation stones of 12 other schemes including eight new police stations of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police in the district.

The premier inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of the projects by unveiling their plaques from Madrasa Maidan in the city.
