Gold fair to remove ill-repute, traders expect

M A Rahman: The gold traders are going to organize a fair for jewellers to clear their stock of the gold paying taxes. 

Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (Bajus) General Secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwala said that following the gold fair, the traders will get relieve from long-term bad name.

Dilip Kumar Agarwala expressed his such opinion while addressing reporters at Hotel Inter-continental in the capital on Sunday.

He also said, “Bangladesh Jewellers' Association and National Board of Revenue organized the three-day long fair. We hope that the gold traders will take the recognition of their stock gold from the government after paying tax of Tk1,000 per bhori.”

A total of 20 booths have been opened at the fair venue. Basic Bank and Sonali Bank opened separate booths for paying taxes. Businessmen of gold will just make announcement of their stock gold. No gold will be sold or bought in the fair.

In the case of cut and polished diamonds, the tax will be Tk6,000 per carat. The authorities also fixed the tax for silver at Tk50 per bhori.
