Govt approves 3 new banks

Special Correspondent: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said that the government is going to approve three more new banks in the country.

The Minister made the disclosure while addressing reporters after a programme organized by Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) at Dhaka Club on Monday.

Muhith said, "There are many banks in Bangladesh now. However, many local areas are out of banking service. That’s why the initiative was taken to approve new banks."

"Insurance service has a special role in Bangladesh's economy. Especially, insurance sector is playing an important role in economic growth," he said. 

Md. Shafiqur Rahman Patwary, Chairman of Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) presided over the programme.
