Govt decides to export hilsa

Secretariat Correspondent: The government has taken decision to export hilsa fish legally to prevent hilsa smuggling. 

Newly appointed Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda made the disclosure while addressing newsmen at his secretariat office on Monday.

He said, "Smugglers sent large sizes of local hilsa fishes to abroad illegally. That’s why there is no specific data in this regard. Even, smugglers are doing this business taking risk in life."

"We organized several meetings with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to prevent these smugglers. It's tough for the BGB to prevent hilsa smuggling after patrolling the huge maritime boundary," the minister said.

So, we have decided to export hilsa fish legally to prevent smuggling, he added.
