‘Govt responsible for situation created by quota abolishment’

Staff Correspondent: Leaders of Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad, a platform spearheading the movement for quota reformation in civil service, said the government has to take all the responsibilities if any untoward incident occurs following the cabinet approval to scrap all quotas for class-I and class-II jobs.

The quota reformists made the comment while addressing a press conference in front of the Central Library premises at Dhaka University campus on Sunday.

Faruk Hasan, a joint convener of the platform, said, “The government has to take all the responsibilities for the situation created by quota abolishment. We did not want quota abolishment; we wanted logical reformation in the quota system.”

Nurul Huq Nur, another joint convener of the platform, said, “We call upon the government to provide financial assistance to real freedom fighters and those who are in insolvent situation. We think there should be a logical provision of quota system for the indigenous people, women and some underprivileged freedom fighters.”

“We came to know that the quota system can be reinstated if necessary. We want to say clearly that if it is needed to reinstate the quota, it should be in line with our five-point demand. Otherwise, the students across the country will give a befitting reply,” he added.
